Used for tapping or striking your bowl, the felt allows you to strike the bowl solidly bringing out the bowl's rich tones, without risk of damaging the bowl.
The white mallet is made for more vigorous tapping than the red mallet. It's flatter striking surface allows you to bring out different sounds in your bowl. Striking on the flat face often brings out the higher frequencies of the bowl where striking on the corner of the mallet often brings out the lower tones.
The striker on the large mallet is approximately 7 cm in diameter, and about 5 cm tall. The handle us about 29 cm long
